The middle school component of Triad Biosummer is a one-week program
held at the Atkins School of Biotechnology. The twenty selected rising eighth grade students engage in several
hands-on experiments including extracting DNA from cheek cells, transforming bacteria, DNA fingerprinting and crime scene
processing. They go on field trips to visit Forsyth Tech's Biotechnology program, Wake Forest University and Syngenta,
Inc. They also interact with several guest speakers as well as high school interns.
The Triad Biosummer program merges the technology and
personalities of our local biotech community into one exciting week. Students find the experience both challenging
and informative. It provides the opportuntiy to develop a deep interest and passion for science and technology.
